Why do people go to Berlin?
2010
What i know about Indians going to Berlin is desperately looking for Hitler or The Wall. To find The wall is very easy it is been exhibited everywhere in the city it has become a museum piece. The city is a city of museum and ofcource the wall has added to the tourist attraction.
i too was excited to see the wall, but i had no idea it will be so easily seen and it will there every where. The fragments of the wall is really there in each cornor of the city in different forms.
The first time when i saw the wall i couldnt find it. It was so big in my mind that the real wall looked very small. Even my friend mentioned she expected it to be big, but then i realised the Wall was big in thoughts and reality to the situation, it was a divide of metaphor, but when it came to my mind about the size i sounded very rude and incorrect politically. thanks god i dint mention it to any Berlin fellow.
An Indian would get disappointed because they would find the underplay of the history when it comes to Hitler. i realized what kind of Hitler obsession we have, referring to the history. and it is unfortunate all the tourist love that sadistic drama of the history and would love to see it presented in a lavish decorated plate.
Art in the city:
I actually went to see Berlin Biennial, which was very disappointing. the spaces were more attractive than the art works. the only work i liked is of Renzo Martens.
The Guggenheim Show was a Indian political show, i frankly dint understand the show, and ofcource the museum had the worst behavior staff, they would scream at you in English if you speak in English. anyways as everybody knows African contemporary and Indian contemporary (sp political art) is popular all over the world. so even in Berlin you could see these displayed in many zones.
The city:
i found the city quite friendly and economically very affordable. i loved the ambiance, the cultural activities, whatever said and done the city has a fantastic aura. and not to forget the contemporary and historical architecture.
