Copy master

Today i understood the word: Plagiarism

which means: wrongful appropriation or you can say: The practice of Taking someone Else's work or idea and passing them off as ones own. it can also mean kidnapper.
I am totally in love with this word.
who all claim they are not into it? is it true?

when we go to an restaurant we always copy the other table isnt it. no this isnt Plagiarism as this is pure form of coping
in today's day Copy means Xerox - but we also use the word "xerox copy"
because xerox is a company name which produces machine to copy - copy machines.

Wikipedia says:
Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work, but the notion remains problematic with nebulous boundaries. The modern concept of plagiarism as immoral and originality as an ideal emerged in Europe only in the 18th century, particularly with the Romantic movement, while in the previous centuries authors and artists were encouraged to "copy the masters as closely as possible" and avoid "unnecessary invention."

Sounds quite wicked isnt it -but that could be the ginger on the ice too.

let us see what does wikipedia say about copy:
1. Copy refers to written material, in contrast to photographs or other elements of layout, in a large number of contexts, including magazines, advertising, and book publishing.
2. Copy may refer to: to copy a word from a book to a paper or laptop or computer
3. similar or identical
4.original vrs the copy
5.the record has sold more than a million copy

so in this fashion and art residency - both the above points are quite a debate in todays day.
i would like to copy and fail at the same time. To copy is the most difficult job in this world. you need to struggle more work hard to copy.

you need to be secretive you need to find references you need to research n style and mediums and materials, you need to be skillful ---basically you should have a fantastic balanced diet.

how about -- you touch somebody and you could copy him. hope one day the technology can take you there -- touch screen.

Todays dairy:
cold in Delhi. have a bad knee. and had a good meeting with all the members of the residency and i could see we were all coping each other. and Faseeh from nada he has jumbed to elastics to make his costumes.

Shortly coming is the stories of tailors.

but the first story is:
one tailor refused to give me his design books to be photographed but he agreed it could be xeroxed or you can say photocopied.

The Funda of the ID Card.

The Funda of the ID Card.
ID card in India means: Drivers license, Voters card, domicile certificate, Ration Card and Passport or pan card.
If you don’t have any of the then?
If I failed in my driving test then?
If I fail to buy a car or any vehicle then?
If failed not to be in one town or couldn’t find the info how to apply for voters card then? Or you have a 7day 9 to 7 job then?
If failed to live in one place more than 5 years?
If I failed to understand the online services of the passport off, then?
If I fail to pay the agent who will help me fill the online application form for passport then?
If I fail to pay taxes or dint earn that much money, then?
If I fail to prove my existence in my own country, then?
If I had an ID card but failed to copy my own signature then?
If I fail to prove my permanent address as I never had one then?
If I failed to prove I had a beauty spot on my left side chin then?
If I failed to have a caste certificate then?

I will never get a Tatkal railway ticket. Nor enter an airport, Nor vote nor get any Gov scholarship, nor any quota job nor any subsidy.

my idea of coping

For the Art and fashion residency in Khoj i have many ideas - hope i could vote and
If i could perfectly copy designs and known as a copy artist (not copy cat) would be so relaxing.
This month i would like to try and see if i could learn how to copy ideas, designs and the feelings.

i surely have many ideas -- i am happy if someone can copy.

Idea1: to paint a ramp and have a body cutout which can decrease in width and height. - 0 size to 9 pack.
5 ft to 6.2 feet in H.

Idea2: like yoko ono the work take one piece of my cloth - can ask them to return it and stitch it back to my body.

Idea 3: ask the local tailors to design for me and make a local brand which is unknown sweatshop.

Idea 4: steal from unknown talented designers and artists and put them in my space before they can- so will visit lots of young artists and designers studios and factories.

is it enough for today?

5th feb Art and Fashion

5th feb 2012

Went to three markets: Sarojini nagar Market, Dilli Hart and Lajpat nagar market.

i Think khoj has given us funds to do some shopping.

Sarojini nagar looks like fashion street of Bombay but it isnt - In bombay too it has changed, in the 90's it was more exciting - there where no plastic shops or bartan shops at that time. but now in fashion street too it is fashionable to keep plastic dubbas.
Here in delhi i couldnt see much of export rejects - it was too much of chamkila salwar kurtas, between vegies and plastic.

Dilli Hart - had Rajesthani food. shopping is always great. Kashmiri stuff is happening now. but ended up doing some shopping for the project. and felt quite happy. i too like the ethnic and exotic stuff.

Lajpat nagar- i just remember noise and crowd and full of gadbad - exactly like the Mangalore Gadbag ice cream. the only thing which was bought was a 25mt white nada by Faseeh. Faseeh was quite attracted to these white nadas in all the three markets which he ultimately owned it in lajpat nagar.

Frankly speaking the market or the galies around khidki village have good tailors and sp found one good leather jacket maker. he is also a designer.

oh i forgot to mention on the 3rd of feb we went to an opening of a boutique called common room and with all fancy expensive dresses, jeweleries and bollywood tadka on trays photo frames there was a very intense expressionless performance. this was all in the new adda of the fashion world - Shahpurjat.

Art and Fashion

1st feb to 5th feb 2012
5th day in Delhi for Art and fashion - as mithu and bhavana would say it is more of FaSion.

still dont know what i am suppose to do and why i am here.
Is it Fashion or trend or style?
Is it textile or clothing?
Can it be object behavior or just simple nothing.

reminds me of Gina: the Chinese hair dresser from our own Calcutta: Kolkatta. but for Gina i think Calcutta is the thing. The Chinese who has lived all her life in Calcutta but still has a British passport as she was born before 1947.
She had once mentioned:
Now a days there is Fashion but no Style.

of course we all spoke about body politics in our intro presentations. That too is in Fashion.

6 participants - quite a mixed crowd -- i hope i remember all the names:

Faseeh Saleem: Lahore: Textile designer/fiber designer

Varun Sardana: Delhi: Fashion Designer

Radhika Bhalla: Delhi: Critic/Art Historian

Andy: frm Taiwan but not from Thailand: Taipei: Artist

Julie Skarland: Norway/Delhi: Fashion Designer

And me

The 2nd day we all went to Gurgaon for a art walk thru three shows: Devi + Art Alive + nature morte. but the best prize goes to the water front of the Oberoi hotel.

Devi: Iranian show - very moving as usual. many where quite a Killer, but nothing surprising as past 10 yrs the Iranian artist have been working quite strongly and also someway i felt they are using the same language. but does it matter as they are able to express them self so strongly. Loved the animation videos --all of them but the ones which said --i dont remember the name - but i think it sounded: you dont know what is above your head?

Art Alive: Fragility: nicely curated show, very sleek -- very proper was it too proper? missed a little bit of ginger. but loved Masoomas work and Mithus fish skeleton vitrine. ( i am in love with vitrines now a days). Masoomas work still in my mind the correct sensitive fragile but still has a little bit of ginger in it.

Nature morte, gurgaon: T&T: -- i can only say they are the T&T. after the show i was craving for sarsoo ka saag and makai ke roti.
